“The Masked Singer” Recap – (12/4)

“The Masked Singer” Recap – (12/4)

We’re just a few weeks away from the season two finale of Fox’s hit celebrity singing competition series “The Masked Singer,” and the eliminations are only getting tougher. Hosted by Nick Cannon, stars are competing head-to-head in song in front of a live studio audience and a panel of celebrity judges: Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger – and this week, Joel McHale returned as a guest judge.

The thing is, the contestants are hidden in elaborate costumes – this week, the Fox, Butterfly, Tree, and Thingamajig faced off. Before the holiday break, the Ladybug was revealed to be Kelly Osbourne, who did a pretty good job masking her English accent! Who will be unmasked next? Here’s what happened on last night’s episode:

  • First up was Butterfly, killing her rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry,” which is no simple tune! She had all the high notes down and brought a ton of energy to the stage – she was definitely in it to win it. She gave some new clues, including that she’s used to “sharing” the stage. That had Jenny guessing that she was Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child, and Ken threw in Kerry WashingtonClue review: Female, great voice, has been in hiding, has gone through a major change, “terrified by the one place I used to call home,” possibly from London, used to sharing the stage, has posed in some kind of photo shoot.

  • Next up was the Fox – and even though we think we know who he is, we really want to know who he is. He brought the soul to Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey,” serving up seriously smooth vocals that had Nicole swearing he’s Jaime Foxx. As for the clues, Fox revealed that he’s felt “underestimated” in his career. Clue Review: Male, great voice and dance moves, natural performer, has lived two different lives – one of them being a superhero, feels underestimated in his career, he does his best work at night.

  • Next up was the fan (and judge) favorite, Thingamajig. He sang “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Bublé, and once again he swept Nicole away. In fact, he even made the move in costume and asked her out! After revealing that he “suffered a setback” recently although he’s use to “hustling every day,” the judges were guessing he could be Montell Jordan or Brian McKnight. Clue Review: Male, can sing and rap, “used to playing second fiddle,” had a setback recently, relation to the number “4261” and an ASL dictionary, used the phrase “party on!”

  • Finally, Tree hit the stage, belting out “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” by Bonnie Tyler. The judges loved the performance, but they were a little thrown off by all the “Friends” references in the clue package. Nicole went ahead and guessed Lisa Kudrow, although she doesn’t have the best track record when it come to vocals (remember “Smelly Cat”?). Jenny threw in “Saturday Night Live” alum Ana Gasteyer and Joel guessed Megan Mullally from “Will & Grace.” Clue Review: Female, decent voice that can reach some high notes, it’s not her first live performances, references to cooking, being on TV, the movie “Mean Girls,” jazz music and the holidays.

Ultimately, it was Butterfly and Thingamajig in the bottom two, so they faced off in song. Butterfly sang Imagine Dragons’ hit “Believer,” and Thingamajig had “Caught Up” by Usher up his sleeve. Thingamajig was the winner of the round, which meant Butterfly was the one being sent home – and unmasked. Butterfly was revealed to be… Michelle Williams!

There’s just a few celebrities left as we approach the end of the season, and the judges are getting more accurate with their guesses! See who gets unmasked next week on “The Masked Singer,” which airs Wednesdays at 8pm on Fox!
