“The Masked Singer” Recap (10/16)

“The Masked Singer” Recap (10/16)

Last night, another star was revealed on Fox’s hit celebrity singing competition show, “The Masked Singer.” Hosted by Nick Cannon, a new crop stars are competing head-to-head in song in front of a live studio audience and a panel of celebrity judges: Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger.

The thing is, the contestants are hidden in elaborate costumes – this week, the Flamingo, Leopard, Black Widow, Skeleton, Thingamajig, and Butterfly faced off. Last week, the Eagle was revealed to be “Celebrity Rehab” star Dr. Drew Pinsky. Who will be unmasked next? Here’s what happened on last night’s episode:

  • First up was Flamingo, and she had the judges and the audience on their feet with her rendition of “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins. Flamingo also served up some new clues, saying she went from “hoodrat” to “Hollywood triple-threat.” The judges have had a hunch that she’s a professional singer, and Nicole’s latest guess was Fantasia. The panel also threw in Ally Brooke, Adrienne Bailon and Kandi Burress. Clue Review: Female, great voice, went from “hoodrat” to “Hollywood triple-threat,” wanted to be a doctor when she was a kid, is making a comeback after feeling trapped in her career, loves beauty and makeup.
  • Next, the Leopard faced off with Flamingo. He did a solid job singing “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes, once again convincing the judges that he’s an experienced singer. As for the clues, Leopard teased that he “wasn’t born a winner” and that he uses his talent as an “escape.” The panel was still convinced he’s Billy Porter, but some newer guesses were RuPaul and Neil Patrick Harris. Clue Review: Male, good voice, has been hounded by the press, uses his talents as an escape, possibly involved in sports, references to “flipping the script.”
  • Then the Black Widow hit the stage. Once again, she totally killed it with a powerful cover of “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. Robin was thinking she could be Raven Symone, which is the popular guess among fans at home. They’re on the right track, since Black Widow implied she was a child actor. Clue Review: Female, great voice, lived in the public eye, possibly a former child actor, reference to a crystal ball.
  • Then it was time for Skeleton to hit the stage. He served up a rockin’ rendition of “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet – his vocals were on point and the performance was great, but not as impressive as some of the other belters. So, the judges were thinking he could be an older star, like Martin Short or Paul Shaffer. Clue Review: Male, okay voice but great performer, feels like a sidekick, was inducted into the National Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame.
  • Thingamajig was next to perform, and while he didn’t impress the last time he hit the stage, this time he proved that singing was his “first love” with a heartfelt rendition of “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves. The performance brought Nicole to tears, who said he sounded like an “angel.” The judges were still thinking he’s a sports star, guessing LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Victor OladipoClue Review: Male, good voice but not known for singing, possibly a sports star, has been in rehab, relation to the number four.
  • Closing out the night was Butterfly, delivering a powerful rendition of “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Once again, she hinted at a connection to London, and revealed she was isolated before coming to the show. The judges were thinking she could be Fantasia, Mel B or Leona Lewis. Clue Review: Female, great voice, has been in hiding, possibly from London, used to be the talk of the town.

Ultimately, it was Skeleton who was chosen to be unmasked – understandable, given the strong voices he was up against. And the judges were right on point with their guesses –Skeleton was revealed to be… Paul Schaffer!

See who gets unmasked next week on “The Masked Singer,” which airs Wednesdays at 8pm on Fox!
